Mirai Nikki Episode 8

New Model – 新機種

.Synopsis.

The Episode opens with a meeting of the remaining diary holders. One member in particular wants to know if he can pass on his Diary to someone else. Deus Ex Machina squints his eyes and the scene changes.

Yuki and Yuno are getting ready to start their new lives at a new school- but in this world, nothing is ever as nice as it appears. Ever.

On their way to the way to classes on the first day of attending a new school, Yuki spots a strange silver haired kid watching him from across the street. No worries, he isn’t completely suspicious, except for the fact the stands out from the crowed and that he disappears before Yuno can see him. Yuno takes the chance to tell Yuki that they should not use their cellphones while at the new school. Anyhow, after getting to school Yuki is greated by the smiling and hateful face of his old classmate Kousuka (the one that betrayed him in the school crisis in episode two.) Kousuka starts to harass Yuki, but is smacked across the head by a new classmate by the name of  Hinata (who apparently has no qualms with dressing ridiculously.) Hinata seems nice, as does her friend Mao. Class starts, and Yuki learns that there have been some really bizarre killings going on, something about people being eaten alive or something

After ripping off Hinata’s pants- No really, Yuki just tugs them right off- the group decides to head out to see the one of the crime scenes that has already been investigated. Yuno tags along, and thinks of ways to kill everyone around Yuki looks pretty unhappy the entire time. Yuki starts to feel closer to his new friends and for the first time in a while is enjoying himself.

The peace doesn’t last for long, as the sun starts to set Hinata wanders ahead of the others, only to be attack by something with human  teeth.. rather, somethings with human teeth. Yuki’s Diary changes, and ignoring Yuno who tells him to put it away, he checks it to see that Hinata is going to be killed after having her arm ripped off. He rushes off to save her, the rest of the group in tow (much to Yuno’s dismay.)

They are too late. They find Hinata’s arm, and then body laying near the woods, surrounded by dogs.. with people teeth. Yeah, it’s pretty damn creepy looking. Yuki realize he has lost his first real friend, and starts to cry. He doesn’t have much time for that as the kid he saw earlier in the episode comes walking to meet them and tells them that if they want to live they better run away. His name is Akise Aru, and he wants to be a detective when he grows up.

As the group runs away the scene changes to a man walking holding a bottle of booze. This man is clearly the man who asked to give away his Future Diary in the begging of the episode. Oh don’t worry though , like every other person in the show, he is totally off his rocker.  After cooking a really good looking steak dinner for a bunch of dogs, the man sits down at his chair and looks at a big glowing screen which has a lot of pinpoints on it. He says something about “the plan already being in motion.” and the screen fades, but not before showing a shot of a picture by his desk. The picture is of him, a woman, and a little girl.. who looks very much like Hinata.

The group runs away to an observatory where all the doors are made of glass. Some how this seems to be safe. Aru tells Yuki that he knows all about his past situations, but understands that he seems to be the victim. Yuno is rather unhappy with having another stalker to compete with. The boy seems to be looking out for Yuki’s best interest.

Anyhow, the dogs are starting to bust through the windows and doors, which is going to get really bad really fast if they don’t do something. Yuki decides that saving his friends is more important that having a few people die. (Have I mentioned Yuno is really unhappy yet? ‘Cause she is pissed.) Yuki starts to call out orders to block certain windows in his Future Diary. Yuno tells Yuki that they should scram and let the dogs be distracted by the other people as she doesn’t trust them, but Yuki tells her to be quiet. Yuno, still angry, is very upset that he is saving other people and more importantly alerting the others to the fact he has a Future Diary. Yuki calls out all the right orders, and the dogs eventualy give up on trying to get into the room. Everyone is happy to be saved, and all is well. So obviously something goes wrong.

Mao thanks Yuki for showing them the power of his Future Diary so quicky, as she grabs his phone and holds a knife to his neck. Yuki is shocked, but it doesn’t stop there. The door opens and Hinata walks in, taking possession of Yuki’s cellphone. Yuno tries to make a move, but Hinata holds up her phone and says she holds the “Breeder’s Diary” and that she better not move. Hinata turns to Yuki to tell him that he wasn’t her original goal, and that she was trying to capture a different person’s Future Diary. Akise Aru’s Diary.

.Impressions.

As the episode started out, I was honestly a little bored with the turns they were taking. Some stupid fan service (and I only say stupid because it really was- Honestly? You tripped and pulled her pants down and she only gets a little upset?) and some generic plot building. It seems almost every arc I think “oh this will be the episode where they take a break from the exciting plot and add some really boring stuff, but I am almost always proved wrong. I love it.

I felt a range of things while watching this episode- At first I was upset by the really abrupt death of his new friend. I was expecting her to be killed off, but not in the same episode. I was also pretty shocked to see her behind the plan the entire time, along with her friend Mao. I guess the sweet ones are the ones you really need to look out for eh? *Ahem* Moving on, I was also creeped out by the clicking of the teeth the dogs did. It was really unnerving for whatever reason. Mirai Nikki really knows how to make me feel pretty uncomfortable, which means its doing its job. Oh, and while I am unhappy Yuki was a pathetic wimp for the first half of the episode, it was nice to seem him take charge and use his Future Diary to protect people (Even if these people suck.)

Well, Once again, Yuno was right about not trusting people. It’s horrifying that he has to rely on someone as scary as her.

All in all, the episode was brilliant and I am very impressed with the direction of this show. Already can’t wait for the next episode!!
